and i'm off.............

so it's my first day as an official bike rider, SCARY. have you ever thought about how dangerous this is? hurtling through space, not quite fast enought to be a car but too fast to be a pedestrian. do you risk your own life and brave it with the cars or do you risk the life of others and stick to the sidewalk? regardless, be sure you watch out for strange objects in the road/sidewalk, they could cost you your cranium. acorns are especially tricky little bastards.

preparation. one must have a keen sense of organization and time management to ensure you have what you need when you need it. this differs from our driving counterparts who have the ability to run home and retrieve what has been forgotten. for the average biker this can be complicated, due to time constraints. which brings me to my next point...the allocation of time. each time i am cotemplating my next move, i graze over the idea the it would be more time efficient to just drive. time efficient, yes, but what about physically, environmentally and personally!?!?

i am a huge advocate of active living, something our society does not condone. a fast paced, consumer culture demands sacrafice of its people; a sacrafice that i will not undertake willingly. there will always be things that we don't want to do but we do them anyway, for whatever reason(s). driving being a big one for me. so through mom's consumption (@ my request) i am now able to periodically shed the heavy blanket known as my automobile. at least enough that i don't feel guilty for not blocking out a portion of my day to DRIVE to an over air conditioned, brick structure to accomplish through man made structures what was once incorporated into our daily lives...........................
